Preschool Threes

Our 3 year old program provides diverse hands-on materials in a print-rich, light-filled environment. Following the Reggio Emilia approach, emphasis is placed on child-initiated projects with teachers stimulating development by changing the environment to meet the needs of individual and small group skills development. Empowered by a sense of wonder, threes spend a lot of time watching, observing and imitating. Rich exploration of art, science, math and language concepts is encouraged and sustained. Language development is rapid and the integration of math, science and dramatic play help threes make sense of the world around them.

Since threes are interested in perfecting gross motor skills, music and movement is offered weekly. Fine motor skills are practiced in the Block and Manipulatives Center. Above all, the social and emotional skills necessary to sustain friendships and develop a community of learners are constantly practiced.

A child’s first experience in preschool at St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School is with the three year old class (the “Threes”). If he has been part of our Parents’ Day Out program, he has already begun to learn and interact with the St. Michael’s environment, including spending time with our Director.

There are two options for the Threes: a Tuesday/Thursday 2-day a week program or a Monday/Wednesday/Friday 3-day a week program. All classes are from 9am – 1pm.

All Threes need to be potty trained before September 1; this allows the Threes class much more freedom and flexibility with the curriculum and keeps our teachers focused on the children.
