Sharing

Children are egocentric until the age of 6. They cannot share until they have fully owned. They haven’t fully owned until they have something as long as they need it.

Our policy at St. Michael’s is to foster “sharing” by realizing it is not a moral issue, but a developmental one. Over time, all children can learn to share. They should never be forced to.

We will have 2 of everything in the school.

When there is a disagreement over anything, we will say” I know that you want it and I want you to have it, but right now _________ has it. _________ when you are all done with it, can _________ have it?”

Regarding sharing things from home: absolutely no toys from home — only homemade projects or natural objects.
